Antifragility

Antifragility is the characteristic of those things that gain from disorder and the title of a book by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. No word captured that concept of the opposite of fragility, so Taleb coined the obvious word “antifragile.” If the concept of gaining from disorder seems non-sensical, think about things such as vaccines, exercise, and callouses. Our bodies hold many examples of responding to stress by getting stronger. In fact, as you think about how not only our bodies, but other things respond positively to stress it is surprising that there was no word to describe the concept. Positive response to stress can be seen in groups ranging from small teams to large organizations.

Does “Vegas Strong” and the success of the Golden Knights represent a positive response to the horrible shootings on October 1st last year? When your business experiences stress and disorder, isn’t there something you can you do to come back stronger?
